Art Education Priorities

Skill Building

Each lesson builds foundational art techniques and vocabulary that grow in complexity from PreK through 8th grade. As students master new skills, they gain the confidence to express their ideas with intention and craftsmanship.

Exploration

Students are encouraged to experiment, ask questions, and take creative risks, discovering that mistakes are a natural part of the artistic process. Hands-on exploration helps them develop curiosity and ownership over their ideas.

Catholic

Creativity is a gift from God, and in our art room students celebrate that gift as they learn they are made in the image of the ultimate Creator. Our faith is woven into our work through sacred art, reflection, and caring for one another as a community.

Monochromatic Self Portraits

For this assignment, Each grade worked on self-portraits around a single restricted palette, one color, their own face, and the challenge of making mood and likeness hold up without any other hue to lean on. This is always a wonderful beginning of the year project because it makes a wonderful mural for the art room or hallway and gives the teacher a good idea of where students drawing ability and creativity stand.
